first off i just want to apologize if im posting this in the wrong area or if someone has already covered this topic.

well i have a few questions about the H/K amp and speakers.

i just picked up a 2003 mini cooper s about 2 weeks ago, i noticed that two of the speakers were not working and one tweeter was blown. so i replaced the front speakers with some after market ones i picked up from best buy. i disconnected the blown tweeter as well. so after i did the install i noticed the sound is great but the front driver side speaker still does not work. and the rear passanger speaker doesnt work (didnt replace it) so i did some digging around in the car and noticed the stock Harman Kardon amp was removed. i was wondering could this be the problem for my front driver side speaker and rear passanger speaker to not be working? or is it something with the wiring since who ever the owner before replaced the stock head unit with an after market one. if anyone can shed some light on this topic that would be great. once again sorry if someone has already posted this.:D

You are asking an impossible question, how would anyone know what the previous owner has done? You will need to take out the after market head unit and start to trace the wiring from there. It will be time consuming but you will never guess what the current wiring is. Check the HK speakers that came out I think they are 2 ohms. If the previous owner didn't know this he could blow the speakers or even part of the amp in the head unit. The HK amp is an amp and active crossover in one and is not easy to replace. Search for wiring help with Harman Kardon in this forum for more details.

Hi ya

Where the amp should be has there been any jumper wires placed in the plug or is the plug and wiring untouched
If it's untouched I would say the wiring has been butchered to delete the amp
there is a way to bypass the amp and get everything working but if your wiring has been messed with you are going to have to start to trace it, and work out what they have done.

This link may be of help to trace the wiring and see how the retrofit is done
